Hunger Action Day® 2023 is Friday, September 15.

Join Us for Action Against Hunger

Every action counts. During September, #HungerActionMonth, we get one step closer to making hunger a thing of the past.

In the month of September, we re-ignite our commitment to this mission.

Why is Hunger Action Month important?

September is Hunger Action Month — an annual campaign dedicated to driving awareness and inspiring action to help end hunger in America, both at a national scale and on the ground in local communities.

In the Arkansas River Valley, one in six people is at risk of hunger — including one in four children.

Mobilizing your community through any of the following actions below will help make the effort a success. As individuals, charities, businesses and government entities, we all have a role to play in getting food to our neighbors in need.

Take Action Online:

  • TURN ORANGE FOR HUNGER RELIEF by making your social media profiles orange. Change your photo to one of our Hunger Action Month images or wear orange and change your profile photo to your portrait.
  • ADVOCATE by becoming a social media ambassador for RVRFB by helping us share our mission and message on social media. View more about our ambassador program here.
  • MAKE A MONETARY DONATION online by clicking here. Every $1 provides 10 meals through the Food Bank!
  • DONATE your status and share your local hunger statistics on Facebook and Twitter.
  • LIKE & FOLLOW our food bank on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Take Action In Your Community:

TURN ORANGE FOR HUNGER RELIEF by wearing orange on Hunger Action Day, Friday, Sept. 15. Share a pic of your orange style socially by tagging us and @FeedingAmerica on social media and use the hashtag #HungerActionMonth. Encourage your friends and family to participate, too!

Pose with the Hunger Monster!

Pose and take photos with our mascot the Hunger Monster! Come see him at our location all throughout September or designate a day on the calendar for him to spend a day at your place of business!

Get your photos with the Hunger Monster, and post the photos on your social media feeds with the hashtags #HungerActionMonth and #FightingHungerDeliveringHope. There will also be a space for people to donate canned goods or other in-need items.

Host a food drive

Help us feed your community by hosting a food drive. View our 40 in-need items list to see what we need to help stock our shelves. (Consider having the Hunger Monster at your place of business during your food drive)

Volunteer for a Shift

Put together a team or fly solo when you volunteer for a shift. You can see the warehouse, learn how the food bank works and help us with tasks or projects so that we can better serve the community.

Volunteer hours = in-kind contributions to our organization.

Take the Hunger Challenge

Help us end hunger by taking the Hunger Challenge! Host a food drive and volunteer for a shift at the food bank to help pack the items you collect! With this challenge, you can see how our mission works from start to finish, from the donation intake process, to sorting and packing the donations, and preparing the boxes/pallets for receiving from one of our pantries.

An incentive during the Hunger Challenge:

1 pallet of donations = 1,000 meals for our community.

Make it a Donation Day

Make a monetary donation to help us feed your neighbors.

Own a business? Partner with your customers with a Proceeds Donation Day. Select a day on our September calendar to designate a portion of a business day’s proceeds to the Food Bank.

An incentive during Donation Day:

$1 = 10 meals to the community; so a $1,000 donation is 6,000 meals.

Lunch Money Challenge

Get a team together or take the solo Lunch Money Challenge! Donate your lunch money every day for a week and see what a difference you can make in your community.

An incentive during Lunch Money Challenge:

A $5 lunch pays for 50 meals for a family in need.

Write a Note About Hunger

If you donated time, food or cash, write about your experience during the “What Hunger Means to Me” writing challenge.

We’ll compile your notes, and share them with our media partners, our donors and our social media followers.

HUNGER FACTS ABOUT OUR REGION

1 in 6 people (and 1 in 4 children) in our region lack access to enough nutritious food.

The River Valley Regional Food Bank distributes food to 166 hunger-relief agencies — food pantries, soup kitchens, youth shelters, senior centers and more — in eight counties.

The 60,000 pounds of salvaged food we collect each day, plus nonperishable food we purchase at low cost, help our partners provide hot meals and food boxes to up to 100,000 people each month.

Please help us keep the River Valley strong with plenty of nutritious food available for free to struggling families.

Together, We Can End Hunger!

“I have the audacity to believe that people everywhere can have three meals a day . . .”
