SUMMARY:Disaster Relief Collection for Food Bank: Bank OKZ
DESCRIPTION:Residents and businesses throughout nearly the entire 8-county service area of the River Valley Regional Food Bank are working to manage the consequences of the flooding from the Arkansas River’s record high level of 40.79 feet. The flooding crested Saturday\, June 2\, and in Fort Smith alone\, more than 500 homes were affected. We thank Bank OKZ for encouraging and collecting financial and in-kind donations at its branches throughout the River Valley to help the Food Bank meet an increased demand felt by its 181 hunger-relief partner agencies.  Stop by a Bank OZK branch today and give toward the relief of others.

SUMMARY:Bookish: Storytime and Food Drive
DESCRIPTION:Help fight hunger in the River Valley and travel to Africa\, too\, during this special story time. Beatrice’s Goat (for ages 4-8) will pull moms\, dads and kids of all ages into the sweet story of how a goat helped fight poverty and hunger for a Ugandan family. Reader Julie Woods Moncrief worked for Heifer International\, which commissioned this book’s publication\, and now works for the River Valley Regional Food Bank – two hunger-fighting organizations. Guests are requested to bring nonperishable food items (or a dollar) to help stock food pantries for summer. A drawing will be held for a soft\, plush goat\, and we bet the winner will want to name it “Mugisa.” Free refreshments include a taste of cold\, refreshing goat’s milk\, and crackers with goat cheese and jelly.\nAdmission: Donation of nonperishable food
